Artificial Turf Lawsuit
Five Lawsuits Consolidated in Artificial Turf Case
June 7, 2017
The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Legislation (JPML) has consolidated in a New Jersey federal court five lawsuits concerning poorly manufactured artificial turf.
The cases allege that FieldTurf USA sold artificial turf for athletic fields that deteriorated more quickly than advertised. Plaintiffs also allege that FieldTurf USA knew of the defects but failed to inform customers of them.
The improperly manufactured artificial turf, the plaintiffs allege, can cause serious injuries to the athletes who practice and play on it.
Two of the cases were already located in New Jersey; the others will be transferred from California and Minnesota. The California and Minnesota plaintiffs would have preferred to keep their cases in their home states, but the JPML ruled that the consolidation of the cases would streamline the legal process.
The cases now fall under the classification of Multi-District Litigation (MDL), and will be heard by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp in New Jersey.
