GM Ignition switch lawsuit settlement?
GM Could Settle Hundreds of Ignition Switch SuitsJune 26, 2017
General Motors has agreed to a confidential settlement that could resolve hundreds of claims that the company allowed a defective and potentially dangerous ignition switch to be installed in numerous of its vehicles.
More than 200 plaintiffs are part of the wide-ranging Multi-District Litigation (MDL) suit in New York federal court; GM lawyers said that the company’s settlement could also resolve hundreds of claims filed in state courts.
In vehicles with the allegedly defective part, the ignition switch can be dislodged during rough travel, thereby causing injuries. In some cases, vehicles’ air bags did not deploy in appropriate situations, which can be an indication that their ignition switches had become dislodged. Improperly functioning air bags can, for obvious reasons, cause injury, as well.
The specific terms of the settlement have not been released.
