Zimmer Knee Implant lawsuit update
Zimmer Knee Implant Case Moving Forward
August 22, 2017
The six-year-old Multi-District Litigation (MDL) case concerning allegedly defective knee implants manufactured by Zimmer, Inc., is likely to enter the settlement or mediation stage soon, according to the Illinois federal judge who is overseeing it.
Judge Rebecca Pallmayer said that she believes the parties in the case will work toward extrajudicial resolution.
The MDL action comprises some 300 cases, one-fifth the number with which it started. Though consolidated in 2011, the action has seen only two jury trials so far, both of which ended in victory for Zimmer.
At issue in the case are alleged design problems that can, plaintiffs say, cause the artificial knee joints to fail.
The bellwether trial in the complex case are expected to conclude by the end of 2018.
