Daniel Gala: Attorney Advisor, Author

Daniel Gala is a freelance writer, photographer, and videographer who is a former attorney with years of wide-ranging legal experience. Prior to becoming a full-time writer, Daniel was an active member of the California Bar for 6 years, working in areas from mortgage lending and real estate to civil rights and environmental regulation to international trade. Having worked for the government at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington, D.C. and sued the government as an attorney at a civil rights law firm, Daniel has seen the system work from the inside and out, a unique perspective he brings to his legal reporting.

Daniel’s writing has been featured in a variety of online and print publications, and he presently is developing both a legal blog and a travel website that are set to launch in 2019. Prior to devoting himself full-time to writing, editing, and research in late 2016, Daniel was an active member of the State Bar of California for over half a decade, beginning his legal career as an associate attorney at a San Francisco civil rights law firm, where he participated in lawsuits against the City of San Francisco and the State of California. Later, he worked for several years as both asset manager and manager of the loan servicing department for a Silicon Valley-based mortgage lender, simultaneously overseeing an active-loan portfolio with over $80 million in total outstanding balances and a real-estate portfolio consisting of over 1,000 residential and commercial units with a cumulative fair market value of over $100 million.

During law school at American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., Daniel focused primarily on international environmental law and international trade law, working during his 3L year at the national headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where he helped research and draft environmental guidelines for use in the United States’ international trade agreements. As an undergraduate at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, Daniel double majored in English and philosophy while playing as four-year starting pitcher for the Cornell Big Red Division I baseball team.

Daniel presently is based in San Francisco, California.
