Ozempic hidden dangers - blindness & Bowel Obstructions

Ozempic Causes Blindness

For months, our Ozempic attorneys have been fielding a large number of calls from Ozempic users claiming they suddenly went blind in one eye after starting Ozempic. However, there is no warning that Ozempic can cause blindness, nor where there any studies suggesting an association with Ozempic and blindness. However, that changed on July 3, 2024, when a study was published in the medical journal Ophthalmology linking Ozempic to a rare form of blindness known as Nonarteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION).

This rare form of blindness was observed in 3 patients taking Ozempic-like drugs in a one-week span at the same facility. Blindness caused by Ozempic typically has a sudden onset, is painless, and only impacts one eye. Exactly how Ozempic causes blindness is currently unknown, but NAION is a type of eye stroke.

Ozempic and Wegovy were found to increase the risk of blindness in diabetic users by 400%!

Ozempic and Wegovy were found to increase the risk of blindness in overweight users by 700%!

The reason Ozempic and Wegovy have an even higher increased risk of blindness in non-diabetic users is that diabetic users have a higher baseline risk of blindness.

The majority of Ozempic users who go blind experience the adverse side effect within the first year of starting the medication. Based on reports that our Ozempic attorneys have received, many experience blindness within the first couple of weeks or months of starting Ozempic. Our Ozempic attorneys are currently preparing to file the first Ozempic blindness lawsuits.

Ozempic Causes Bowel Obstructions

On September 22, 2023, the FDA approved a label change for Ozempic to now warn about the risk of gastrointestinal disorders, specifically ileus. An ileus is also known as a non-mechanical bowel obstruction. An ileus is an intolerance of oral intake due to decreased propulsion of the intestines. Bowel obstructions are typically mechanical, caused by something like adhesions, and require surgical intervention to fix. However, Ozempic-induced bowel obstructions are non-mechanical and do not require surgical intervention. Even though bowel obstructions caused by Ozempic typically don’t require surgery, many patients still require weeks in the hospital. Hundreds of Ozempic bowel obstruction lawsuits have now been filed around the nation.

Ozempic Causes Gastroparesis

A side effect very similar to an ileus is gastroparesis or gastric stasis, which occurs when there is delayed gastric emptying. Simply put, Ozempic can make your stomach take too long to empty its contents. Common symptoms of gastroparesis include vomiting. Many patients experiencing Ozempic-induced gastroparesis end up hospitalized for days to weeks. Our Ozempic attorneys have also discovered that many patients diagnosed with gastroparesis were actually experiencing an ileus or bowel obstruction caused by Ozempic.
